About the Photographer-Kristin Giordano www.kristingiordano.com

I am an award-winning photographer with ten years of professional experience. I have photographed over 100 weddings. I was accepted by the Wedding Photojournalist Association in 2007, an organization of the finest wedding photojournalists in the world. My work has been featured in Martha Stewart's Weddings, Minnesota Bride, and on theknot.com. I’m also a fine art photographer. My fine art photography has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums, and my photographs are held in numerous private collections. My work has been featured in calendars, on book covers, and countless magazines and journals. I was awarded a T/Pac Travel Grant to photograph in French West Africa, won first prize in PostPicasso's Interpreting Spirituality, and recently won the competitive print sponsorship award from Seattle's Photographic Center Northwest, where I’m currently working on a series of photographs from recent travels on the Arabian Peninsula. I worked as the staff photographer for the award-winning Tucson Weekly, and my documentary work has been published in the Phoenix New Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Woodstock Quarterly Review. In 2005 I relocated to the Puget Sound area, and while I now primarily serve the Seattle, Tacoma, and greater Puget Sound region, I continue to shoot weddings all over the country.

Why I Love to Shoot Weddings
Photographing weddings is a dream job for me. I love the ritual and emotion and interaction that takes place during a wedding. It's a supercharged event, bringing family and friends together for a day of celebration and reunion. I also love to see the joining of different families, often across cultural and sometimes religious divides. Different cultures meet and come together in really amazing and inspiring ways. The people I've met doing this job have really blown me away and changed my life, my perspective, and the way I see.

I would be honored to be a part of your celebration, and I always approach my responsibilites with the utmost respect and professionalism, but not without a sense of humor and a spirit of fun. I would love to be included in your wedding day.

Why I Use Real Film

I am a film photographer, which is increasingly rare in the field of wedding photography. I use Leica cameras and lenses, renowned the world over for their superior quality. These cameras have been used by the greatest photojournalists throughout history, including Henri Cartier Bresson, Gary Winogrand, Sebastiao Salgado, and Mary Ellen Mark.

I love the quality of film; the variety of tones, the depth and beauty of the light, the dreamy falling off in the background acheived in close up. I do use digital technology in my proofing and printing services, so high resolution scans and digital printing products are available.

Why Hire a Professional?

Did you know that looking back, the number one wedding regret couples have is that they skimped on their photographer? I can't even count how many couples I've met with who had been terrified by horror stories of wedding photographers who photographed the first hour of the wedding with the lens cap on, photographers who lost rolls of film, or photographers who simply didn't show up for the wedding. Your wedding day only happens once, and your photographs are the only keepsake you'll have to show for the months of planning, dieting and ballroom dance lessons!

And remember, when choosing your photographer, be sure to see samples of real weddings he or she has photographed. Anyone can get one or two great shots. What you're looking for is evidence that a photographer can repeat that quality over and over again—someone who can produce a comprehensive tapestry of good shots. Ask to see an entire album from a single wedding.

Why Summerhouse?

Many clients ask about my studio name. When I opened my wedding studio in Tucson, I had a business partner, the wonderful photographer Sloane Ehnat. We worked out of a small cottage in her backyard that we called "the summerhouse." When it came time to choose a name for our company, we decided to call it Summerhouse in honor of our small studio space. I have since relocated to Tacoma, WA, and now am the sole photographer at Summerhouse Photography.
